Blogger Quilt Festival

Well, the semi-annual festival is here!  I am so excited about this year as I'm one of it's sponsors!  If you win in 'my' category, you'll receive an Everyday bag (Jeni's design) as well as some FQs.

Onto my submission: It's a throw/lap quilt that I made as a gift for my sister and brother-in-law for their wedding.  I had bought all the materials way back when distant pickles was doing a QAL for their Cosmic Burst pattern, but never got around to it!  Well, with their wedding this past weekend, I needed to get it done!  I used Pure by Sweetwater, a Kona Brown ( I think it's chocolate?), and Kona Bone.  I used a simple diagonal quilting on it so it wasn't too busy.

And here is a picture of the happy couple.

Homeschool: The first month

Well, we've been at it for just over a month and the kids and I are really starting to find our 'groove' with the lessons this year.  I'm only homeschooling four of them as my oldest has entered into the public school realm this year.  I must say it's a bit different not having her home all day.

My oldest, at home, is steadily going through his Saxon Math 2 curriculum.  We never finished last year and he's doing multiple lessons a day and is just flying.  He'll be caught up by year's end no problem!  My DD2, is chugging away doing math printouts online and thoroughly enjoying it.  I may get her a Saxon workbook for the second half of the year; we'll see.  My two youngest DDs that I'm schooling are using these wonderful printouts from Confessions of a Homeschooler.  I printed out the Daily Learning Notebook for the 5 year old, and the Preschool Daily Learning Notebook for the 3 year old.  I put them both in a binder full of page protectors and they use dry erase markers to trace the letters, numbers, write their name, etc.  They have more fun with that than anything and are constantly asking to do school!

We're sort of eclectic this year with our curriculum due to budget constraints, but they're loving what they have.  They're doing Apologia Science, MFW year two, and BJU English.  The Magic School Bus Oceans For Nintendo Ds (Google Affiliate Ad)We've started the workbox system with the two oldest and they really are thriving with it as they have no question as to what they need to do each day.

Well, that's an overview in a very small nutshell.  Hopefully, I'll be a bit more consistent with my blogging on this side of life as well as every other aspect.  :)

Enjoy the fall foliage out there!  I'm sure we will!
