A Review: Schoolhouseteachers.com

Photobucket

Well, I have joined up with the TOS Review Crew!

I am excited to be a part of this as a way to learn about new and exciting curriculum to incorporate into our home school.  This first review is on www.schoolhouseteachers.com.  I currently have elementary and pre-school aged children in my home and therefore utilized that section of the site.  I also used the dailies link for general studies.

Schoolhouseteachers.com has a promotion going on right now where the first month is only $1.00!  Also, they have a special promotion going on right now where you can get a one-year membership for only $49! (regular price-$64.26!)  What I love about this site is that, though I only have elementary aged students, it goes all the way through high school!

I enjoyed the ease in which I was able to navigate site to find items of interest.  Under the pre-k link, I found under lapbooking their December Lesson which is "Christmas in a Barn."  My kids and I are currently going through that lesson and are having a ton of fun with it!  We've actually never done lapbooking until this particular lesson and it was very easy to follow the teacher's instructions as to the construction of the lapbook.  Under the Dailies tab, we downloaded the Idaho lesson.  That I have slated for next week.  Again, I can't wait to do it!

The only downside so far is the amount of paper I'm printing out, though it's in black and white which really helps!

All in all, I plan to utilize this site more in the future!

Disclaimer: I have received a free copy of this product through the Schoolhouse Review Crew in exchange for my honest review.  I was not required to write a positive review nor was I compensated in any other way.  All opinions I have expressed are my own or those of my family.  I am disclosing this in accordance with the FTC Regulations.

Modern Mini Mystery Round Robin-The Reveal!

Well, today is the day! I get to reveal the finished product after waiting 8 months to get my original little square back with all it's new borders. I must say, what I received went far beyond what I expected! The creativity that went in to each and every border was amazing! Not only that, my mini traveled to more places than I've been! Here is what I sent out:
And here is what I received:
Isn't it just stunning? I used very simple quilting because I didn't want to hide the pretty borders. I used mainly stitch in the ditch and a few accent stitches. I love it! 100 Day Hustle: Halfway Mark

Well, it's the halfway mark!  I think that I was able to get a decent dent finished on my list.  Some items are so close to being finished that I can foresee them being finished by the end of the day-Woohoo!

Here is my original list:

  1. Lauren's Quilt finished 10/15/12
  2. Custom ordered burp cloths finished 11/1/12
  3. bee a {modern} swapper blocks
  4. quilts for cancer blocks
  5. sew.bee.create blocks
  6. not your granny's bee blocks finished 10/10/12
  7. comfort quilts bee blocks
  8. Stef and Sean's wedding quilt finished 10/16/12
  9. charity quilt #1: red/green/yellows
  10. charity quilt #2: blue/white
  11. Sean's birthday quilt
  12. Stef's embroidery wall hanging
  13. Baby blanket for friend-top done!
  14. Flaming Cowl for shop finished 9/25/12
  15. Lonestar Wall hanging for home
  16. Across the Sea quilt
  17. 3x6 bee block quilt-so many squares to be made into something for me!
  18. Moody Blues bee quilt-need to put that together! Fandango
  19. my sew.bee.create blocks made into a quilt as well- orange/yellow/black
  20. Pair of socks I've been working on forever...on the needles!
  21. Ben's quilt
  22. fix bean bag
  23. fix monkey stuffed animal
  24. fix Thomas' watch
  25. Pouches for shop
  26. Custom-ordered fingerless gloves on the needles!
As I made progress, I would post where I was or cross it off if I finished.  Here are pictures of what I finished:
#1: Lauren't Custom Quilt:
This is a memory quilt that I made for her son, Greg, using clothing she had saved from his childhood.

I used a neutral brown for the backing, I believe it's Fox Trails Stars.

I chose this red for the binding as I loved how it brought out the red within the quilt.

#2. Custom ordered burp cloths
These were made for a friend I knew growing up who is expecting her third child.  They are awaiting the little one's arrival to find out if it's a boy or a girl-which will be really soon!

These were so much fun to make!  I used cloth diapers and flannel.  I prewashed everything because of their inherent shrinkage nature.  I used a blanket stitch to secure the flannel to the diapers for durability, because they are going to see ALOT of use!  :)

#6.  Not your Granny's Bee blocks
These were late finishes in the bee department.  I was a bad bee-mate.  But, they were finished nonetheless and I love them!

#8. Sean and Stef's Wedding Present
This was so much fun to make.  I used Pure by Sweetwater as that is her living room color scheme and the pattern is from Distant Pickles called Cosmic Burst.

#14. Flaming Cowl
This is currently a listing in my shop and was a ton of fun to make!  The pattern is Husk by Lisa Mutch over on Ravelry.

And these are what I have made progress with:
#13: Baby Blanket for friend:
I have finished the top and just need to sandwich, quilt and bind.  I used the Starburst tutorial from Melissa over a Happy Quilting.

#20: Socks for me.
I'm close to getting the first of the two finished.  Here is a not-so-great shot of them. I am using the Flutter-by pattern I found on Ravelry.

#26: Custom ordered fingerless gloves
I have finished one and am only about 12 rows away from finishing the second!  This is the one where I forsee finishing by end of day!  This pattern is called Geology Mitts over on Ravelry.

All the others I have either made some progress and forgot to take pictures or I haven't even looked at them!  I hope to have quite a few more crossed off come December 31st; especially since some are to be Christmas gifts!

I am linking up over at Kelsey Sews!

WIP Wednesday

It's been a while since I've written a post for WIP Wednesday, and it's not for a lack of WIPs, but of time! I've been working on many projects, a mix of bee blocks, shop orders, and gifts.  It's hard to believe that Thanksgiving is quickly approaching, though one would think we're celebrating Christmas at the end of the month with what decorations are around everywhere!

So, here are some pictures of what I've been up to:

These bad boys were custom ordered from the shop and I finished them off and sent them out last week.
I've been working on these for myself.  They will be my first ever pair of socks that I've made!
And this will be a baby quilt soon!  I just need to sandwich, baste and quilt.

I have so much more I'm working on, but no corresponding pictures.  Oh well.

In Progress:  5+
Finished: 1
No progress: Too many I'm afraid.

I'll be linking up over at Freshly Pieced.
